Medical Camp

In collaboration with Nellikuzhi Panchayat, Mar Baselios College of Nursing organized and conducted a medical camp at Chirappady Community Hall on 30/04/2024. The NSS students effectively campaigned for the success of the camp under the guidance of Ms. Mary Elizabeth John and Ms. Chithra M. The main services provided are blood pressure checking, BMI calculation, Blood sugar checking, vision testing, physical examination and dental screening. The team consist of four doctors and 49 students from 4th year BSc Nursing. The camp started at 9 am and around 82 patients utilized the services effectively and it was concluded at 1 pm.

Visit by students from Niagara College, Canada - 30/04/2024

On 30.04.2024, 20 students (16 girls and 4 boys) from Niagara College, Welland, Ontario, Canada along with their two instructors visited the college campus for conducting their International Field study with an aim of ‘Be World Ready. The program is organized by the Community Health Nursing Department of MBCN, in reached association with INSCOL Health skills, Kochi. They reached the college at 9:30 am and were welcomed with warm reception at the entrance. They were received into the Secretary’s meeting room and official programme was commenced around 9.45 am.

Mr. Binoy Thomas (Secretary, MBMMA), Board Members Mr. M.M. Sunny and Mr Charly were present in the function. Small refreshment was given for the delegates followed by photo session and student interaction.

Delegates transported to the medical camp site organized by MBCN, where Dental OPD and General OPD were arranged. Along with those vital signs monitoring and BP and GRBS assessment were done for the public. A delicious lunch was organized for the delegates in the nutrition lab of the college. In the afternoon, they had a beautiful visual treat by the students of B.Sc. Nursing programme. Delegates were very satisfied and had given an excellent feedback about organization of the event, camp, campus, food, hospitality etc. and they left the college by 2.45 pm.

Health education of cardiac arrest and its first aid - 21/04/2024

Cardiac arrest followed by death is very common in today’s life. A person who is having cardiac arrest can be revived back if the CPR is initiated within seconds of unresponsiveness. In this context, MBCN has organized an educative session on 21/04/2024 in association with Vincent De Paul Society unit and KCYM, St. Joseph’s Church, Peringazha along with a workstation to deliver both awareness and hands-on-experience on how to provide a CPR in cardiac emergencies. The session was started with a skit based on the topic by 4th year BSc Nursing students under the guidance of faculty of Medical Surgical Nursing Department and nearly 120 members attended the same. The feedback received from the participants were really encouraging.

Health check-up for differently abled people – 17/042024

In collaboration with IMA we have conducted a health check-up for differently abled people on 17/04/24. The programme was organized under the auspicious of Mar Thoma Cheriapally, Kothamangalam, at Mar Basil Convention Centre, Kothamangalam. The co-ordinators for the programme were Mrs. Mini Varghese, Asst. Professor, and Mrs. Chinchu John, Asst. Lecturer. A total of 145 homebound individuals and their caretakers attended the event, including 15 bedridden clients, 10 wheelchair-bound clients, and the remaining attendees utilizing three-wheeled handicapped scooters. After the initial assessment we directed the patients to appropriate specialities such as ophthalmology, Nephrology, General Medicine, pulmonology and Dental check-up. The doctors from MBMM Hospital and Taluk Head Quarters Hospital, Kothamangalam were present in the programme. Basic medical supplies including diaper, catheter, Nelcath catheter (12,14) Foleys catheter (14, 16), Urobag, Dressing pad, Underpad, Gloves, Lignocaine gel along with the prescribed medication such as Albendazole, Metrogel, Calcium supplements, Antacids, Expectorants etc. were distributed under the presence of H.G. Alias Mar Youlious Metropolitan and Rev. Fr. Jose Paranayil. There was recreational activity for the disabled people and they shared their life experiences. The session lasted upto 4pm.

International Women’s Day 2024 – 08/03/2024

As part of International Women’s Day, the NSS volunteers of MBCN conducted an awareness program on 08th March 2024 at Ward VIII, Anganawadi of Nellikuzhi Grama Panchayat. The program commenced at 11 am with a prayer song. The welcome speech was delivered by Aswathy Suresh, NSS volunteer. The dignitaries were Mrs. Thahira, Asha worker and Mrs. Usha, CDS member. Following the inauguration a flash mob and awareness program were conducted by NSS volunteers based on the theme; “Invest in Women: Accelerate progress”. Mr. Shebin presented the achievements of women in various sectors for empowering the women group. We organized games and awarded prizes, ensuring active participation in the activities organized by the students.

World Health Day 2024 - 08/04/2024

As part of World Health Day, Third Semester BSc Nursing students of MBCN actively participated in the program on 08/04/2024 at Mar Baselios Dental College. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Rohini C, District Program manager of NHM. Dr. Reshmi M S , RCH officer, and Dr. Sam Paul, Medical Supdt of Taluk Headquarters Hospital, Kothamangalam conveyed the message for the day. Our students performed a skit related to the day and it was informative to the public and they participated in various other programs also.
