About Us

The town of Kothamangalam is located in Kerala, India, about 50kms to the east of Cochin City. It is known as the ‘Gateway of High Range’ – with a number of distinctive and attractive features of natural beauty as a valley to the nearby hills especially well known tourist place Munnar. Mar Thoma Cheria Pally – had its biggest impact in 13th century due to the arrival of our Patron Saint Yeldho Mar Baselios Bava from Mousel as an ambassador of the Patriarch of Antiochia and the entire East, who served as a missionary to the Gospel.The Shrine of Yeldho Mar Baselios Bava remains as the centre of Blessing in Mar Thoma Cheria Pally, for all these who comes these seeking a solution for their worries irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The Mar Thoma Cheria Pally is a Christian Jacobite church which is particularly well known for its humanitarian efforts and passionate concern towards the society by managing various institutions within the reach of town. Mar Baselios College of Nursing named after the Saint is under the auspices of Mar Thoma Cheria Pally and is managed by Mar Baselios Medical Mission Association (MBMMA) Kotrhamangalam. The college seeks to be a witness to the healing ministry through excellence in education and service.

Mission

This institution promotes harmonious collaboration in the conduct, dissemination and utilization of nursing research which will contribute to the quality patient care and educational outcomes. This institution create a community of nurses interested in promoting and supporting nursing research, providing a platform for nurse scientists to interact on issues related to nursing. Through active participation in research and shared decision-making, it promotes a culture of excellence that reflects a commitment to continuous growth and development of nursing science.

Philosophy

The faculty, Mar Baselios College of Nursing believe that nursing research is a discipline develops knowledge about health and the promotion of health over the full lifespan, care of persons with health problems and disabilities, and nursing actions to enhance the ability of individuals to respond effectively to actual or potential health problems. We believe health as a dynamic state of being on a continuum ranging from peak wellbeing to sickness and a state of health exists when a person functions as an integrated whole, living and interacting with environments in a productive manner. We believe the nursing research makes an essential contribution to society and education for professional Nursing is best conducted in an institution of higher learning. We believe Nursing Research takes place through a planned teaching learning process and that helps develop trustworthy evidence about issues of importance to the nursing profession, including nursing practice, education, administration, and informatics. We believe Nursing Research at the masters level is specifically concerned with preparing Nurses with advanced practice skills to provide expert nursing care to society & contribute to nursing science as mentors. We believe that professional nurses contribute to the nursing research, work toward continued improvement & growth of nursing.

“Nursing” has evolved to an entirely new level since its birth. Student’s all-round development is the prime objective of Mar Baselios College of Nursing. We aimed at nurturing future nurses with all the essential values of life at one hand, student nurses with knowledge, skills and attitude related to the hi-tech care. While education has always imparted knowledge and developed the mind, the major function of education would be to inculcate in the student a desire to evolve. The students have been trained under the care of qualified and experienced faculty.

Nursing Foundations

The department provide assistance in fostering an entry level nursing student who is prepared to transition to practice as a member of the inter professional health care team. The focus of the programme is mastery of high level competencies reflecting the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for the delivery of safe, quality nursing care and to actively promote the development of the science and profession of nursing. Faculty and students strive to challenge and support one another to accept responsibility and accountability to collaborate with the best interest of one another and the communities they serve.

Adult Health Nursing

The department deals with courses related to adult health nursing including geriatrics within the framework of KUHS and INC. The department strives to impart knowledge and practical skills to students who develop with distinct identity and character, meeting the goals and aspirations of the society.

Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing

We aspire to provide theoretical and practical education to students and health care providers so as to maintain the quality and continuity of service through clinical care and emphasize professional development through research. The faculty and students in the department of OBG contribute to a wide spectrum of educational and research programmes on antenatal, intranatal, postnatal and gynaecological subjects. We are committed to providing exceptional care to women and family through community health programmes and school educational programmes. The division of OBG continuously maintain the momentum since its inception. The members of the department expertise and interesting innovative educational methodology and qualitative clinical outcomes.

Child Health Nursing

The Child Health Nursing Department focuses on providing specialized care to infants, children, and adolescents to promote their health and well-being. Nurses in this department work closely with paediatricians and other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of paediatric health conditions. They play a vital role in supporting children's growth and development, administering vaccinations, educating families on child health and safety, and providing emotional support to both children and their caregivers. The department is dedicated to ensuring that children receive the best possible care to thrive and reach their full potential.

Community Health Nursing

The community health nursing department focuses on promoting and protecting the health of individuals, families, and communities. Nurses in this department work to prevent disease, promote healthy lifestyles, and provide healthcare services to those in need within the community. They often collaborate with other healthcare professionals and community organizations to address public health issues and improve overall well-being.

Mental Health Nursing

The Mental Health Nursing Department is dedicated to providing care and support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Nurses in this department work closely with patients to assess their mental health needs, develop treatment plans, and provide therapeutic interventions. They play a crucial role in promoting mental wellness, managing psychiatric symptoms, and supporting individuals on their journey to recovery. The department often collaborates with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
